Alpha Baking Company, Inc. was established in 1979 with the acquisition of the Mary Ann Baking Company in Chicago. Founded in 1935, Mary Ann is best known for the ever-popular Chicago style poppy seed hot dog bun. In 1981, Alpha Baking purchased S. Rosen’s Baking Company, a Chicago staple and baker of Jewish hearth rye breads and variety rolls since 1909. Through the years, Alpha Baking has continued to grow with the acquisition of Kreamo Bakers in La Porte, Indiana in 1979, National Baking Company in Chicago, Illinois in 1997, Natural Ovens Bakery in Manitowoc, Wisconsin in 2007 and recently in 2016 with the addition of a new sweet good facility in Chicago and a new baking facility in Grand Rapids, MI.

Since 1951, Bueno Foods has grown into one of the Southwest's premier producers of New Mexican and Mexican style foods, serving restaurant and retail customers throughout the US.
Bueno Foods started out as a small neighborhood grocery store called The Ace Food Store. In 1946, several brothers, members of a long-time New Mexican family, had just returned from serving in World War II when they scraped together enough money to start a grocery business. At first, the small operation was quite successful . . . that is until grocery store chains started infiltrating the Albuquerque market. The Baca brothers soon found out their small “mom and pop” store could not compete with the Piggly Wigglys and Safeways of the world. They wanted to make a go of their business however, and they began to think of ideas to make their enterprise work.
At first, they started integrating their mother’s delicious cooking into their business, adding a carry-out component to the store. The homemade traditional dishes were a hit but the Baca brothers realized, the carry-out couldn’t sustain them forever. At this time, they formed a partnership, manufacturing corn and flour tortillas on a pie crust roller, tamales, and posole. They moved their operation from Bridge, around the corner to Airway, the site of their childhood home. Then, the Baca brothers had an idea. They talked about it around the supper table with their mother and father. They talked about it day and night. It was the early 1950s and every household was getting a freezer. Birdseye frozen vegetables were becoming the rage.The brothers asked themselves two questions: “Why couldn’t they take their heritage and preserve it, so to speak? Why couldn’t they start with an autumn tradition and use freezers to make it last until the following year’s harvest?” In other words, they had the idea to take chile, roast it over an open flame as the wonderful New Mexico autumn tradition dictated, and freeze it so that people could enjoy green chile year-round.
The Baca brothers were the first to flame roast green chile on a commercial scale. There was no equipment for this kind of process, so they had to build it. There was no process, so they had to invent it. And so they did, more than 60 years ago. With a handful of products as their focus, Bueno Foods was born, founded in 1951. So, for over half a century now, Bueno Foods has grown steadily from a small neighborhood grocery store into one of the Southwest’s premier producers of New Mexican and Mexican foods, still owned and operated by the Baca family. Consistent quality and service, customer responsiveness, innovation and hard work have resulted in Bueno’s steady upward growth and success.

The company originated in Ames in 1957 as Pronto Foods, a frozen pizza producer. Bill Burke Sr. joined the company as operations manager in 1964 and purchased the company in 1967. The company shifted direction in 1974, when Mr. and Mrs. Burke changed the name to Burke Marketing Corporation, sold the frozen pizza line and began producing and marketing select recipes of meat pizza toppings. A focus on custom formulation and private labeling was a natural next step.
In 1984, the company outgrew its Ames production facility and moved the major production line to its current location. Since that time, the company has constantly updated with multiple expansions, implementation of new technologies and the introduction of new product lines. In 1991, after more than 20 years at the helm, Bill Burke Sr. transitioned leadership to his son, Bill Burke Jr.
In 1999, Burke expanded its capacity, improved its quick-freeze process, and created a new Technical Center to house its chemical and microbiological laboratories. In 2004, Burke’s most aggressive expansion project to date increased production capacity, improved efficiency in freezing packing and distribution, and created a fully automated clean room. Burke Corporation has experienced steady growth over the years, now employing more than 350 team members and running three shifts per day.

The seeds of the company were planted in Chef Paul's mind back in the days when he was traveling around the United States, slipping his tasty combinations of dried herbs and spices into the otherwise unexciting dishes served in the restaurants where he worked. Once back in Louisiana, he continued his practice of adding his unique blends to recipes, and when customers asked the secret of his seasoning, he would make up little batches to give away.
These packets proved enormously popular, and soon putting them together became a time-consuming practice. After discussing the matter with his employees, everyone agreed that a separate facility was needed and the blends could be sold on their own. Not only would such an arrangement free the restaurant staff for their primary responsibilities, it would enable many more home cooks to add Chef Paul's seasonings to their food.
And so a company was born. There were obstacles to overcome, of course, but through perseverance and ingenuity the fledgling firm grew so that now it occupies its own modern 30,000 square foot plant, with 38 employees and distribution in all 50 states and 25 foreign countries.

English Bay is a beautiful beach that is located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is west of the downtown peninsula separating the bay from Burrard Inlet. The lively West End neighborhood of Denman St. and Davie St. begin at English Bay, where on both streets you'll find a great variety of restaurants, cafes and shops. In 1983 we were one of the popular retail bakery outlets on Denman street. We have moved from the bakery to manufacturing plants but still kept the name as inspiration for the café that started our journey.
Our founder, Jack Seguin, created the first cookie recipes that were hand scooped and baked for the retail outlet. The same quality ingredients are found in our unchanged base recipes of today. Olé Mexican Foods was established May 5, 1988 in Decatur, Georgia, a suburb to the east of Atlanta, with a small machine that produced 400 dozen tortillas per hour. The journey began when we experienced açaí with local surfers during a trip to celebrate the new millennium in Brazil. Our last night in Brazil, we started working on a plan to share açaí with the world and in early 2000, Sambazon was formed.
We scraped together enough money to buy a container of frozen pulp and some marketing fliers and began trying to convince juice bars in Southern California that açaí was the real deal. By the end of that first summer, over 50 juice bars were selling Sambazon Açaí Smoothies. Our legacy of Upper Crust Enterprises, Inc. and Gary Kawaguchi began with Fishking Processors, Inc, better known as Mrs. Friday’s. Mrs. Friday’s began in 1955 in Los Angeles by Masashi Kawaguchi, Gary’s father. Mrs. Friday’s quickly became renowned for its innovative quality breaded seafood.
To maintain the company’s high level of quality and differentiation, the Kawaguchi family introduced to the U.S. “Panko” - Japanese Bread Crumbs as a coating on its seafood. The Panko coated shrimp and fish became a hit with restaurants nationwide. Originally the Panko bread crumbs were imported; however, in the early 1980’s the family decided to build a facility and manufacture their own Japanese Panko Bread Crumb. It was the first Panko manufacturer in the U.S.
As the family business continued to expand, Gary Kawaguchi always followed his father’s vision. Through the Company’s acquisition in the mid 90’s Gary remained on the Management team committed to the success of Mrs. Friday’s while managing the Panko business. In 2006, when the Mrs. Friday’s breaded seafood operation was merged and moved out of California, Gary purchased the Panko operation and changed the name to Upper Crust Enterprises, Inc. Gary continued the business and his family’s life-long dream of satisfying customers by providing innovative Japanese quality Panko Bread Crumbs and Tempura Batter mix.

Valley Lahvosh Baking Company was founded in Fresno, California, in 1922 by Gazair Saghatelian. A master baker in his native Armenia, Gazair became well known for creating his deliciously different breads and crackerbreads.
Through the years, his daughter Janet carried on his traditions. Today, still under the operation of Gazair’s family, and in its original historical location, Janet’s daughter Agnes continues the bakery’s commitment to Gazair’s quality and goodness.

The story of Vie de France began in 1971. At that time, four people, discussing the need for quality European breads in America, committed themselves to the business of making authentic French bread. Soon they discovered what countless others before them had discovered: domestic flours and conventional baking methods could not duplicate the French product.
Determined to succeed, they recruited master French bakers, laboratory analysts and technical staff. An extensive research and development process ultimately identified the proprietary Vie De France formula for flour.
Creating the perfect formula for flour was not enough. The founders of Vie de France also imported the bricks necessary to build the ovens that would recreate the heat and humidity levels essential to turning out the golden color, perfectly crisp crust and inner texture that characterized authentic French breads. Additionally, they trained their bakers in the tradition and science of French bread baking. Vie de France began producing croissants in mid-1983. Today, the croissant is perhaps our best known and loved product.
Over the decades, Vie de France evolved into more than the nation's premier baker of authentic French bakery products. Through the acquisition of Country Epicure®, a New York-based maker of European cakes and pastries, Vie de France strengthened its position in the industry. Additionally, in 1978, Vie de France embarked on a project to develop a chain of retail establishments around the country. This project has resulted in many Vie de France Bakery/Café shops in several major cities throughout the U.S.
On June 27, 1991, a milestone in Vie de France history was achieved when Yamazaki Baking Company, Ltd. of Tokyo purchased the Vie de France Bakery division. Later, on May 27, 1994, Yamazaki Baking also purchased the Vie de France Restaurant division and formed what is today - Vie de France Yamazaki, Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Yamazaki Baking Company, Ltd. of Tokyo.
Our parent company, Yamazaki Baking, is one of Japan's largest baking companies with 22 manufacturing facilities throughout Japan. Yamazaki has been involved in the bread baking business since 1948. Today, our parent company employs nearly 20,000 people in Japan. These employees are critical to the daily production of a variety of products including croissants, French breads, white breads, pastries and snack foods.
WOWBUTTER Foods is a small family business, owned and operated by the Mahon family. We started over 20 years ago with the idea of creating unique natural foods grown on our very own farms where we could provide superior quality products by completing every step of the process from "Field to Table" all in one facility. We also wanted to work towards ensuring the future viability of our family farm and at the same time help support other local neighbouring family farms.
Through many years of product development, trials and test marketing, we have progressed to the point where we now focus specifically on soy based foods using soybeans grown on our own farms and other local neighbouring farms located in the fertile soil of South-western Ontario, an area renowned worldwide for its high quality soybeans. West Point Dairy has three locations, one in West Point, Nebraska, the second in Hyrum, Utah, and the third in Richland Center, Wisconsin. Our butter is churned daily from pasteurized cream. West Point Creamery was started by Frank Figge in 1947. The manufacturing location was in downtown West Point, at 402 S Main. This plant was primarily engaged in manufacturing butter, buying farm separated cream at various cream stations in northeastern Nebraska. Locally, businesses like Ortmeier Produce and Kaup Feed & Seed would purchase cream from Cuming County farmers, and then resell it to the creamery. Cream in cans from locations further away, was shipped in by rail and off-loaded at the West Point train depot. In 1960, Harry Robison joined the company both as an owner and manager.
In May of 2005, Mark & Susan Peckham sold West Point Dairy Products, Inc. to the Wuethrich family, a manufacturer of butter in Wisconsin, and the name was changed to West Point Dairy Products, LLC. Since that time, the plant has continued operations, with a growing emphasis on private labeling and specialty packaging. This emphasis, along with a continued growth and development in the condensed buttermilk sales, is putting the company in an excellent position for a successful future.
